Cheap flights

Just letting you know that the Ryanair flights from Stansted to Haugesund are really cheap at the moment! The Thursday (5th) and Tuesday (10th) ones are the cheapest right now, but the Sunday (8th) flights are also very cheap!

Food

We forgot to write this in the information that comes with the invitation, but please let us know if you have any food allergies! There will be a buffet with lots of sea food, but also some meat and salads, but we need to know if anyone has any dietary needs.

Rock fan?

The local newspaper, Haugesunds avis, is reporting today that Mötley Crüe will play in the main square on Wednesday 4th August. So if any of you are interested, this is the chance....! If the planes have started flying again by then, that is.....

The Wedding

So just to let you know what will be happening on the day, here is a rough overview.
We'll start the celebration on Friday night with a barbeque by the sea somewhere, time and place will be announced closer to the date!
The church service will be at 15.00, 3 pm, in Avaldsnes church, followed by a reception at app. 5.30 at the AKF house at Håvik (it's all on the map!). Later on there will be lots of cakes, dancing (hopefully a ceilidh!), some more food and drinks. On Sunday we're planning to have a brunch for those who are still around.

Now that Anne-Lise's final exam is out of the way and Alex is done with his school inspections we finally have some time to sit down and write invitations! So we need your addresses, good people! If you could please email them to asydnes@gmail.com that would be very much appreciated.

Haugesund

Haugesund, where we're getting married and where Anne Lise spent the first 19 years of her life, is a little town situated by the sea on the West coast of Norway. It's a lovely little fishing town, with nice cafés, old wooden houses, and a beautiful harbour where you'll often find old sailing boats coming through. Here are some of the main sights in town:

Haraldshaugen, where it is believed that the Viking king Harald Hårfagre was buried.
The copper for the Statue of Liberty was mined in the area.
Ryvarden, a light house with an art gallery and a café.

Here's a photo of us at Ryvarden. It's really beautiful, and next to the open sea. Scotland next..

Where can I stay?

We are hoping that as many as possible of our friends from Britain, and elsewhere, will join us on our big day, and we will try and put as many of you as we can up with family and friends in the area. If you let us know in good time, we'll do our best to find somewhere you can stay!

If you prefer staying in a hotel, hostel or on a campsite, here are some options for you:

These are some cheaper options:
Karmøy Vandrerhjem Strandgaten Gjestgiveri
Skeisvang Gjestgiveri

Here are two hotels, one in the centre of town, the other one is closer to the church and reception venue, but further from town:
Hotel Amanda
Radisson Blu Hotel
Scandic Hotel Haugesund

There is also a campsite in town, if anyone prefers staying in a tent or a cabin! Although I'm sure we can find a friendly garden for you to camp in instead.. :)

The church where we're getting married!

This is Avaldsnes church, or St. Olav's church, which was built around 1250 by the king Håkon Håkonsson. Avaldsnes was the centre of power during the Viking period, and the king lived here. They have made some major Viking period findings in the area and have also reconstructed a Viking farm, which is only a few minutes walk from the church.

How do I get there?

From LONDON:

The easiest way to get from London is to fly with Ryanair directly from London Stansted to Haugesund. (click on the link to get to their website) They fly every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, and the tickets are very cheap! It might not be the best airline in the world, we know, but when it's so cheap it doesn't matter! It's worth mentioning that the prices vary a lot. At the moment they are not too bad, but they might go up and down between now and the wedding. So it's worth it to keep checking every now and then!

There are also alternatives: SAS fly to Haugesund via Oslo, their tickets are a bit more expensive. But you can also get some good prices on those flights, so again it's worth checking!
Both SAS and Norwegian fly to Stavanger and Bergen, which are both quite close to Haugesund (by Norwegian standards, anyway). Stavanger is a 2,5 hour bus journey away, which costs about £20 one way, returns are cheaper. The journey includes a ferry trip, and the landscape through which you travel is stunning! It includes both mountains and fjords, and the buses are very nice and comfortable.
Bergen is a 3 hour bus journey away, or you could take a boat that takes about 2 hours. The bus costs app. £30 one way. Returns are a lot cheaper. This journey also includes a ferry trip, and the landscape is amazingly beautiful!

Bergen and Stavanger are beautiful cities, and if you're thinking about taking a little holiday before or after the wedding, both of them are absolutely worth visiting! They are also in close proximity to other tourist attractions like The Pulpit Rock or the Geiranger Fjord.

You can find out more about Bergen here, and more about Stavanger here.

If you prefer staying in Haugesund, where the wedding is, you can find out more about the region here. Haugesund and the region around is also a very beautiful part of Norway, and worth seeing more of!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us!

Map

You have to zoom out a bit to see the places we have marked. The placing of our reception venue isn't entirely correct, it is just by the seaside, at the end of the road where it's shown.
